Boston Renegades present Alumni Appreciation Day this Saturday

BOSTON — The Boston Renegades, the defending champions of the Women’s Football Alliance, will be celebrating “Boston Women’s Football Alumni Appreciation Day” this coming Saturday at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere.

The event is expected to attract many former players from the region’s women’s football teams of the past, including the Massachusetts Mutiny, New England Intensity, Bay State Warriors, Boston Militia, Boston Rampage, and New England Storm, the area’s first women’s tackle football team. Since 2000 when the Storm was formed, more than 600 local women have played for these teams.

“I’m excited for Alumni Appreciation Day to pay homage to all the women who helped pave the way and establish a winning tradition for Boston women’s football,” said alumna Chanté Bonds who was the 2018 Women’s Football Alliance Most Valuable Player. “Their courage and boldness to play a sport that many believed couldn’t be played by women at a high level, inspired me to do something I could only dream of as a little girl.”

Boston has a long and prolific history in the women’s football movement. The teams that comprise Boston Women’s Football have played a total of 40 seasons and won 67.5% of their 375 games, compiling a record of 253-122. They have reached post-season play 25 times, made 15 conference championship appearances and eight league championship appearances. They also won four national titles (2010, 2011, 2014, 2018).

“We strongly believe that every season is built on the foundation of the last, and the strength of our program is a testament to the storied history of women’s football in New England,” said Stephanie Pascual, an organizer of the event and a team captain for the Renegades. “This day is in honor of our alumni; we recognize that we would not stand here today without them.”

Festivities will begin at 3:30 p.m. and include a tailgate party with a beer garden, games, and prizes including a raffle. The party will be followed by the Boston Renegades’ final regular season game against the D.C. Divas at 6 p.m. The party is free and open to the public. Game admission is $15 (children under 10 enter free). Alumni are encouraged to RSVP for complimentary admission.
