Renegades Seek Third National Championship in a Row

2021 season starts on May 8

The Boston Renegades begin their road to a historic third championship in a row when they host the Detroit Dark Angels to start their 2021 season in the premier women’s football league, the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). Boston’s five-game season starts on May 8 at their home field, Harry della Russo Stadium in Revere, Mass.

The team is anxious to get on the field after the cancellation of the WFA’s entire 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They were coming off an undefeated season in 2019 after capturing the city’s fifth professional women’s football championship since 2010, and the team’s second in a row. The Renegades beat the Cali War 52-24 in the WFA Division I National Championship game in July 2019, battling through a lightning delay and an early deficit. The come-from-behind win was a storybook ending to a season that saw the Renegades outscore their opponents 608 to 148 through nine games.

Amanda Alpert (OL/C #50), who is gearing up for her sixteenth season, says that success only fuels a larger goal for the future. “Our vision is to be the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Our sights are set on being three-peat champs. This is our year to make history,” Alpert shared.

Despite the Renegades’ success in 2018 and 2019, the team is not complacent.

“Going into 2021 we already have our eyes on the prize for a repeat championship win, said team captain Stephanie Pascual (WR #3). Coming off of our first team meeting and practices you can tell that no one is going into this any less hungry than we did two championships ago. Especially now that the schedule includes competition that we haven’t seen before.”

This season the Renegades will face the Detroit Dark Angels for the first time ever, at home on May 8. They will end the regular season with a rematch on June 19 in the Motor City. The schedule also includes a home game against the Baltimore Nighthawks on May 22, and home (May 15) and away (June 5) match-ups with Boston’s archnemesis, the D.C. Divas.

Regardless of the opponents, Pascual knows that the end goal is the same as it’s always been. “I know that every player on our team is excited to continue showing the world that we deserve to be number one and it doesn’t matter who we play.”

Game day information for the 2021 season will be posted in the coming weeks. Because state and local COVID-19 policies and restrictions will hamper ticket sales and game attendance in 2021, individual donations and gear purchases from our online store are instrumental to funding our season.
