Renegades Seek Return Trip to WFA Pro National Championship

January 18, 2022

2022 Season Opener Slated for April 16

BOSTON – The Boston Renegades have released their 2022 game schedule. They aim to defend their title as National Champions of the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA). Last season, Boston defeated the Minnesota Vixen to win their third consecutive league title, which set a new precedent for the WFA.

The national championship game will again be held at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, and the game will be broadcasted live on ESPN2. The WFA secured the venue in 2021 with a five-year agreement with the Hall of Fame Resort and Entertainment Company, and inked a broadcast deal with ESPN earlier this month.

AN EXPANDED PRO DIVISION

This season, the Renegades will compete against an expanded field of competitors in the WFA’s Pro Division.

2022 will see the return of two perennial powerhouses: the Pittsburgh Passion (three-time champions) and the St. Louis Slam (four-time champions), both of whom were inactive last season due to the pandemic. Also joining the fray are the surging Nevada Storm (two-time champion) and the Detroit Venom, the newly rebranded iteration of the Detroit team who reached the Division 2 championship game in 2019 and 2021. They join Boston, Minnesota, the D.C. Divas, Tampa Bay Inferno, Arlington Impact, Dallas Elite, and Cali War.

Altogether, these eleven teams account for 29 championship game appearances. The assembly of these highly accomplished teams makes the WFA’s Pro Division the strongest field of competition in the sport of women’s football.

RENEGADES SEASON SCHEDULE

The slate of games includes several highly anticipated matchups including those with long-time rivals D.C., and Pittsburgh. Holding with tradition, the Renegades will face the D.C. Divas twice in the regular season. They will open the season in D.C., and host the Divas in the regular-season finale.

It has been 14 years since the WFA’s very first champion, the St. Louis Slam, has faced a Boston Women’s Football team. The Slam squared off against the Massachusetts Mutiny in the 2006 NWFA playoffs.

Rounding out the six-game schedule are Tampa Bay and Detroit who have recently become familiar foes.

April 16 at D.C. Divas
April 23 at Tampa Bay Inferno
April 30 vs Detroit Venom
May 7 vs Pittsburgh Passion
May 14 at St. Louis Slam
May 21 vs D.C. Divas
