John Johnson brings extensive experience coaching football from both high school and semi-professional levels, including more than a decade of experience working with women’s football teams.

Johnson has been head coach of the Boston Renegades since 2016. He has led the team to three consecutive Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) National Championships (2018, 2019, 2021). Johnson formerly served as the defensive coordinator and head coach of the New England Intensity in the Independent Women’s Football League (IWFL) from 2010 to 2013.  Johnson also was defensive coordinator and offensive coordinator with the Boston Bandits, a men’s semi-professional football team that won four New England Football League (NEFL) Championships during his tenure.

In 2022, Johnson was named defensive line coach for the USA National Women’s Tackle Football Team. The national team competed at the Women’s World Championships in Finland in July 2022, winning the gold medal.
