Boston Enters Playoffs Undefeated; Will Face Archrivals this Saturday
BOSTON – June 15, 2017 –The Boston Renegades women’s football team are the top seed in the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA) playoffs after finishing the regular season with a 7-0 record. The Renegades face the D.C. Divas (6-3) at 6 p.m. this Saturday, June 17, at Catholic Memorial School’s O’Connor Stadium in West Roxbury.
With the top seed, Boston claimed home field advantage and a first-round bye. Number 4 seed D.C. punched their ticket for the conference semifinals with a 28-6 victory over the Cleveland Fusion in the opening round of the playoffs.
The Renegades have met the Divas twice already this season, taking a 26-22 overtime victory on the road, and a 26-0 shutout victory at home. It was only the third shutout in D.C.’s 17-year history, but the second in their long-running rivalry with Boston. Despite the Renegades’ success against the Divas in the regular season, a victory against the reigning league champion on Saturday is far from guaranteed.
“They beat some very tough teams this season — Pittsburgh, Carolina, Atlanta…and they seem to be gathering steam lately. There is little room for error against this team,” said assistant coach and team executive Molly Goodwin.
Playing the most challenging schedule in the league has the Renegades tested for battle. In addition to defeating the D.C. Divas twice, the Renegades downed the Montreal Blitz (nationally ranked #5), and the Philadelphia Phantomz (#7) twice. Boston also notched dramatic come-from-behind victories against the Pittsburgh Passion (#3) and the Chicago Force (#2).
“The top teams are closer this year than they have ever been. It makes for great entertainment in the stands,” added Goodwin.
Should the Renegades emerge victorious this Saturday, they will host the conference championship game against either Pittsburgh or Chicago on July 8th at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere. Kick off will be at 6 PM.
